The Carolina Cupcake Wars
Judging Guidelines

Welcome to The Carolina Cupcake Wars! Our judges are pivotal in ensuring a fair and exciting competition. Below are the detailed guidelines for the judging process:

1. Briefing and Scoring System:
-
Judges will receive comprehensive briefings on the judging rules and procedures.
-
Scoring will utilize a point system (refer to additional documents below). Each section of the score sheet has a maximum point value, which will be indicated. Scores range from 1 (lowest) to the maximum points specified.
-
The score sheet includes a notes section for judges to provide comments and feedback on each contestant's display.
2. Competition Categories:
-
The competition is divided into two categories:
-
Teen Division: Ages 12-17
-
Adult Division: Ages 18+
-
3. Judging Categories:
-
Judging will be conducted across five distinct categories (details in documents listed below).
4. Blind Judging Process:
-
Contestants are assigned numbers for anonymity. Judges will evaluate each cupcake blindly, ensuring impartiality and fairness.
-
Judges will not enter the judging area until all contestants have cleared the venue.
5. Tie-Breaking Procedure:
-
In the event of a tie, an impartial backup judge will be called upon to determine the final outcome.
6. Comments and Descriptions:
-
Judges are encouraged to provide detailed comments on the score sheets.
-
Competitors must include a brief description of each entry, detailing the flavor profile. This description aids in evaluating the flavor and presentation and informs judges of any potential allergens.
-
Descriptions should convey the entrant's vision, process, materials, and techniques, and may include a brief explanation of the theme or backstory. Note: No competitor or organization names should be mentioned in these descriptions, and any photos showing competitors’ faces will be discarded.
7. Score Sheets and Final Decisions:
-
Competitors will receive copies of the score sheets.
-
All judges’ decisions are final.
-
Any questions or concerns during the judging process should be directed to our staff, not the judging committee.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment to making The Carolina Cupcake Wars a sweet success!
